Had such a pleasant trip to see the pandas and the Buddha in Leshan! Ellen, the guide, and the driver arrived punctually at the hotel and took me to all the best spots for pictures while sharing fascinating insights about the pandas and Chengdu. We enjoyed a great lunch before embarking on a lovely boat ride to see the Buddha. Everything went smoothly from the reservation process to the end of the tour, and the spacious, clean car made for a comfortable drive!
The Leshan Giant Buddha is one of the must-see attractions when visiting Chengdu although it is located more than 2 hours away in the city of Leshan. Visitors have a choice of viewing the 233-ft stone carving from a built-in stairway in the mountain or riding a ferry, which is what we did. The ferry entrance is located far from the parking area but there are rickshaws that can take you there faster if you don’t want to walk. There were many local tourists on the day of our visit so the queue going to the ferry was quite long. The Giant Buddha stone carving is really huge up close, and it isn’t a surprise that it took 99 years to build. However, the once ferry passes the Buddha, it will immediately go back to the docking station to pick up more passengers so this tour was quite quick. If you come with a tour guide, he/she will be able to discuss the stone carving’s history, which is nothing short of fascinating. Very educational too, I must say.
Well organized, and our guide, Lily, helped us to the best areas to see pandas, which was great. Nice stop for lunch. The giant Buddha was great. I was afraid of the long time in the car combining the two, but with the level of confort provided it went by fast and was really worth it!

I can't stress it enough—great driver! He then took us to Huanglongxi Ancient Town, pointing us toward the best street to stroll along. I also recommend this portion of the trip, as it offers a glimpse of the traditional Chinese housing style, which is mostly lost in the big cities. We kicked things off at the Panda research and rescue center, and the kids absolutely loved seeing the Giant Pandas and the cute little Red Pandas. After that, we grabbed lunch at a local spot, and everyone got to try some yummy new dishes. Frank, our guide, was awesome—he took such good care of the kids and made sure they were having fun. The driver was really helpful too, always there when we needed him. It was a smooth and enjoyable day for our whole family, and we made some amazing memories!

The pandas were obviously a highlight, but we also thoroughly enjoyed exploring other attractions, including the magnificent Leshan Giant Buddha.
