Overview
Erhai Lake, located in the suburb of Dali city, is the second largest freshwater lake in Yunnan Province. Because of its shape like an ear, so it is named Erhai Lake. Erhai Lake has excellent water quality and rich aquatic resources. Although it is called the sea, it is actually a lake. It is said that Yunnan is located in the inland, and the Bai people call it Erhai Lake to express their yearning for the sea.
Background
The history of Erhai Lake can be traced back to the Han Dynasty (122 BC). Zhang Qian, a famous diplomat of the Han Dynasty, was blocked by local tribes in Kunming when he opened up trade routes between Western China and ancient India.
Therefore, he expropriated local people to dig a man-made lake in Kunming, which was called "Kunming Lake" in ancient times. And trained the water army, ready to attack the Kunming nationality in Erhai Lake area. The successful construction of Erhai Lake also played a positive role in the development of later generations.

The climate of Erhai Lake is mild, with an average annual temperature of 15.7 ?, the maximum temperature of 34 ?, and the minimum temperature of - 2.3 ?. The lake water does not freeze. The average annual precipitation is 1000-1200 mm.

Erhai Lake is the "Mother Lake" of Bai people, which was called "Golden Moon" by Bai ancestors. Erhai Lake has seven main functions: Water supply, Agricultural Irrigation, Power generation, Climate regulation, Fishery, Shipping and Tourism.
When the wind is calm, the scenery of Erhai Lake is like a poem or painting. There are Three islands, Four continents, Five lakes and Nine bays in the lake. Three Islands: Jinsuo Island, Chiwen island and Tianer island; Four Continents: Qingshabi, Daguanchi, Yuanyang and Mayan; Five lakes: Nantang lake, Beitang lake, Lianzhu lake, Longhu Lake, Bozhou Lake; Jiuwan: Lianhua Bay, Daji Bay, Puji Bay, Fengyi Bay, Luocuban Bay, Niujiao Bay, Boyin Bay and Gaoyan Bay. In Tuanshan Mountain, the southernmost tip of Erhai Lake, there is an Erhai Park, which is a good place to enjoy the scenery of Cangshan Mountain & Erhai Lake.
