Starts your tour at Songzanlin Lamasery, it is the largest Tibetan Monastery in Yunnan, built during the Qing Dynasty and established by the Fifth Dalai Lama in 1679and also one of the 13 famous Lamaist monasteries in Tibetan regions. The lamasery is built on the slope. It extends from the foot to the top of a mountain, with an imposing and elegant shape. It takes the pattern of the Potala Palace in Lhasa and hence has another name “Small Potala Palace”.
Your lunch will be arranged at the local restaurant popular with the local people to stay away from the tourists' meals.
After lunch, head to visit the Potatso National Park. Potatso National Park is located in Shangri-La County. The park was announced on June 25, 2007, and is notable as the first national park in China to meet International Union for Conservation of Nature standards. It incorporates the Bita Lake Nature Reserve and the Duhu Scenic Area in the Hongshan region. As such they are part of the Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan Protected Areas World Heritage Site.
After the tour, you will be taken back to your hotel in Shangri-la.
In the morning, drive about 180km to Deqin County which takes 6-8 hours. On the way, you will through the Bengzilan Town, the Moon Bend of Jinsha River, Jinsha River Grand Canyon, Dongzhulin Monastery and Baima Snow Mountain Nature Reserve. Enjoy the Paradise of Shangri-La!
Today's highlight is the Meili Snow Mountain: Located about 10km west of Deqing City in Diqing Prefecture. As the sun rises in the east, the snow-mountain looks splendid, draped in gold. Low altitude modern glaciers, can be found in this area, of particular interest to those engaged in geological research.
Under Kawageber Peak, Mingyuchia Glacier and Sichia Glacier stretch down to the forest at an elevation of 2,700 meters; this area is accessible. However, the highest peak, Kawageber Peak some 6,740 meters above sea level, is still a "virgin peak", untouched till now. Mountaineers from China, Great Britain, the US, and Japan have failed to conquer the peak over the years. In 1991, 17 mountaineers from China and Japan trying to conquer the peak lost their lives on the snow-mountain.
After the trekking tour to Meili Snow Mountain, drive back to your hotel in Deqin.
Today you will be taken to visit Mingyong Glacier Park in a Tibetan Mingyong Village, walk or ride a horse on the trails for about 4km to the glacier in Meili Snow Mountain.
Keep going to a Tibetan Taizi Monastery - another good place to view the magnificent glaciers.
Stay overnight in Deqin.
Enjoy the sunrise of Meili Snow Mountain in the early morning, then drive back to Shangri-La, have a nice view of Yangtze River Grand Canyon and Baima Snow Mountain again on the way back. Transfer to the airport in Shangri-la.
